Best Defense

Best Defense

There are a lot of concerns today, about a pandemic.  Swine flu has jump from bovine to the human host. We are being encouraged to wash our hands, cover our noses and mouths when we cough and to stay home if feeling sick. Travel to Mexico is discouraged. The World Health Organization has raised the level of concern in the USA and the numbers are rising. It makes me think about the underlying health of our bodies. The concerns are valid.

When our immune systems are strong we can fight almost anything, but right now our collective immune system has been under siege. So I agree with the national advice but I also encourage my loved ones to take a look at the overall wellbeing of the body.  We live in an individual body but we also live in a wider community or body of people. When one becomes sick we all are at greater risk. So it is important to keep ourselves healthy as well as our loved ones.

How do we do that? It is important to eat right and get enough rest. We cannot say enough about the power of prevention, but even simpler, send and receive love. Pray for your loved ones. When something comes between you make up right away and when you cannot do that and it is over move on as soon as you can. Surround your body with loving people. Pray together and that is the best defense anyone can have. I love Marianne Williamson’s prayer because it is so simple:

Dear God,

Please take the swine flu away.

Amen
