Sweet Harmony

Sweet Harmony

We sang so much growing up. We could go for hours with no conversation just Smoky tunes Jackson five and plenty of Stevie Wonder. I remember Jayne & Julia’s face close up to mine trying to help me to find my note. I still listen for their voices in my soul when I sing in the car alone but they are with me forever! We have all grown up to have our own separate but shared lives and I do believe it is our harmonies & the songs shared between us that makes us so close even when we are far geographically apart. Even Abby is not that far when we groove to Now that we found Love!

They were freedom songs & love songs mostly and for me (as this was before the advent of the music video) I had pictures in my mind of dreams that took shape and then flew off into colors and morphed then into deeper aspirations. (I can make it, I can hold out, I can keep the faith.) Music lit up my insides in a way that is unrivaled today. Well Acting does a similar thing but it is of the same family.

Anyway I am feeling more hopeful today as I can reach out and touch so many of my loved ones in such a way as this. We get to say Good morning the way Aunt Iva and Grandma Ruth used to do every day on the telephone if we want to. We get to peak in and see each other’s photo even if we are not going to talk. But I hope we do not lose the connection of the real in person stuff. The laughing together till tears roll down our face the secret knowledge that I may be a little flat but still loved and adjusting my tones to a better harmony.

It is funny this getting older! We have witnessed a life that is just a glimpse and instant in time and there is a finite number of people who has shared this special time together. Let’s make it count. It is no small thing!

I remember that too. Nights with the mirror as our spotlight. I am not sure if the harmony was real harmony, but it was harmony to us. We were framed by the accapella groups that Dad used to listen to on Saturday nights..."in the still of the night!" We had a great time. I remember one time we tried our hand at writing music and Dad named us the "alleycats". That was sweet to us in our "alley!"

It' so true. Those memories are probably pre-verbal for me, because you guys sang all of the time. You sang to me probably while I was still in Mom's womb. So it warms my heart and consoles me in when ever I feel that things may not be quite as fair as I think they ought to be ~I go to that place and realize not everybody gets born into a family like ours for sure! That kind of harmony is almost tangible. Thanks for sharing Jayne!
